DeleteAs Robert Nisbet, one of the twentieth-century revivers of Conservatism admitted, Conservatism is one the big three modern ideologies, along with Liberalism and Socialism. Scruton defined it in similar terms. For him, Hegel was the greatest principle of Conservatism. Conservatism chooses to reinvent rather than burn down the facade of Christianity (as some ideologies do), but it is secularist and sceptical by definition. It qualifies for the same label this post hangs on other Enlightenment ideologies.
