Thank you, everyone, for your very kind words and prayers. Not out of the woods yet, but things are improving. In the meantime, since we could all use a laugh, here's a timely bit of political commentary from Bob Hope:

This gave me a great idea for a video game/movie/parody. People in a small town in the mountains of Pennsylvania must use their guns and religion to survive the zombie apocalypse. The zombies mutter slogans like "change" and "hope" and shamble about, but rather than eating a person's brains, they go for their pocketbook. Once deprived of their own money and reduced to living on federal aid, these people become zombies as well.
ReplyDeleteJust posted it on my FB. Thanks for the laugh. I'll put you in my rosary intentions tonight. (And great idea Anon!)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, that's an amusing idea.
ReplyDeleteThis is off topic, but here at EWTN you can get, for this month only, thirteen lectures by Ralph McInerny on Thomism.
ReplyDeleteI should have added, scroll down to the bottom of the page to get the lectures!
ReplyDeleteAre there any Thomist Democrats?
ReplyDeleteI don't doubt that there are Democrats who imagine themselves to be Thomists.
ReplyDelete"I don't doubt that there are Democrats who imagine themselves to be Thomists."
ReplyDeleteSo it's not possible to be a Democrat and a real (as opposed to imaginary) Thomist?
Thomists are Christians, are they not?
ReplyDeleteNow, I realize that the Roman Catholic Church is always very close to sliding into socialism --it seems to me that, in large part, socialism get its "moral" cover from the public expressions of (significant numbers of) Catholic bishops and the fulminations of Catholic (and/or "Catholic") intellectuals – but seriously now, how can a real Christian support a political party which champions the major planks of the Democratic Party?
One has little choice in one’s familial relations. One has nothing but choice in one’s political relations.
In Britain in the sixties there was an influential group of Marxist Catholics who published in a journal called Slant

and who included Dominicans such as the (learned) Aquinas scholar Herbert McCabe.
The whole thing seems ludicrous to me, but I don't think that the people involved repudiated their views in the light of later experience/ wisdom.
As far as I can gather the UK Dominicans remain mostly leftist (except, perhaps, for their most eminent scholar Aidan Nichols OP http://www.jp2institute.org/admin_nichols.html who is regarded as conservative - despite defending Vatican II liturgical reforms - http://www.catholicherald.co.uk/features/f0000522.shtml).
On the other hand, back in the real world Aquinas was a reactionary monarchist.
Put it down to the corruptions of prideful intellectuals, perhaps?
HA HA - this clip was hysterical! Especially because during the ENTIRE CAMPAIGN I could NEVER ONCE look at Obama on TV - he scared me...those purple lips--- he LOOKED like a zombie, as I told everyone in my family!
