Today, though, I was reading the 4th World Omnibus, and Mr Miracle no. 3 has a sequence on the second page that reminded me of the desire you expressed to see Act and Potency depicted in sequential form. Are you familiar with this issue? Since my knowledge of A-T scholarship is limited, there's a good probability that I am mistaken, but the "animates" in that issue seemed to illustrate that idea more or less. It seems to me it could at least be appropriated to that end.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8954608646904080796.post-76303879949636955992011-09-03T22:38:06.054-07:002011-09-03T22:38:06.054-07:00Don't know if you've seen it, but Chris Ma...Don't know if you've seen it, but Chris Marker's film LE JETEE is completely made up of still photographs. But his interests lie a little broader than mere philosophy. The Fifth Head of Cerberus, for example, may be one of the greatest novels about colonialism ever written. By stripping colonialism from actual context (i.e. divorcing colonialism from real-world cases) he brilliantly illustrates the cultural impact of colonialism on both the subjects and rulers.

I would say that Wolfe is a novelist fist, and a Catholic second. He also posits some rather interesting religious ideas (see There are Doors for a prime example of this). I'll also say that Wolfe and Peter Ackroyd are probably the two greatest post-modern novelists writing in English.E.H. Yeah, they were sort of about morality... but I remember giving up about the time that Starfire from The New Teen Titans (they were big at the time, so sue me!) had to go back to her planet to get married. Both of them were in love with other people they were sleeping with, but they got married because she was supposed to be queen or something. Her husband was immediately almost killed and she realized that she DID care about him -- that marriage really meant something -- and saved his life. And then went back to Earth to shack up with Robin. I was in college, for goodness' sake, and not particularly averse to people shacking up. But she was married. It really bugged me. After that I started noticing more and more similar things and got sick of them.

But I really loved the way comics combined story and visuals. Every once and a while I would go back and pick up a couple, but they're still the same or worse. I used to love Alan Moore (Swamp Thing!!!!!!) -- now he's a pornographer AND an anarchist. It doesn't seem to be an industry that is particularly good for the soul.Gail Fhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11740482509910163332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8954608646904080796.post-48987869272156788482011-09-01T11:13:34.517-07:002011-09-01T11:13:34.517-07:00I think an A-T comic book or cartoon would be a ve...I think an A-T comic book or cartoon would be a very handy teaching tool. Aristotle: A Graphic Guide was a big disappointment. The authors misread Aristotle and the illustrations do nothing to illustrate the concepts discussed. It's just a bunch of figures drawn under word bubbles filled with elementary metaphysics (and, as I mentioned, some of that metaphysics is incorrectly stated).

Dr. Feser, you should hook up with a good artist and write your first philosophical comic book. When I was in grad school I got hooked on them again.

Lately though, I find that so many of the current stories and art, at least in Marvel's books are so in-your-face sexual and directly insulting to conservatives (not to mention religion) that it's no fun anymore.

I still can't get over Cyclops shacking up with Emma Frost. It's a retelling of the Marvel Silver Age through the eyes of a "civilian", and the art is Alex Ross's almost photorealistic style.
